Semaglutide 2.4mg — the highest dose, specifically approved for chronic weight management
Both are semaglutide — but Wegovy is dosed at 2.4mg weekly vs Ozempic's maximum of 2mg. The higher dose produces greater appetite suppression and more weight loss. Novo Nordisk also sells Wegovy as Poviztra through Emcure for wider pharmacy availability in India.
Wegovy must be escalated slowly over 16 weeks to minimise GI side effects. Do not rush the escalation.

After Novo Nordisk’s 48% price cut effective April 2026, Wegovy starts at ₹5,660/month for the 0.25mg starter dose, rising through the escalation schedule to about ₹14,000/month at the 2.4mg maintenance dose.
Generic semaglutide contains the same molecule from ₹325/week, but most generics top out at lower doses. Wegovy delivers the full 2.4mg dose studied in the STEP trials (15–17% weight loss) with Novo Nordisk’s pen device and safety record. Discuss the dose-vs-cost trade-off with your endocrinologist.
STEP trial data shows patients regain roughly 60% of lost weight within a year of stopping. For most patients Wegovy works best as a long-term treatment combined with diet, exercise and resistance training.
Poviztra is a second brand of Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg) sold by Novo Nordisk through Emcure to widen distribution in India. The molecule and dosing are the same as Wegovy.
